Questions

Which rules does the check use?

The eight items of § 14 Abs. 4 UStG for a normal sale, both VAT IDs for a tax-free delivery to a business in another EU country (§ 14a Abs. 3 UStG), the shorter list for invoices up to 250 € (§ 33 UStDV) and the § 19 note for small businesses (§ 34a UStDV). Text read from gesetze-im-internet.de on 21 October 2026.

How is VAT split when an order has 19 % and 7 % items?

Shopify's export gives the VAT per rate but not the rate of each item. The page finds the split of items (and shipping) that reproduces Shopify's tax lines to the cent and prints the rate next to every line. If no split fits, it says so and keeps Shopify's totals.

Is a PDF still allowed for German business customers?

For supplies until 31 December 2026, yes (sent electronically only with the customer's consent). For supplies in 2027 only if your 2026 turnover was 800,000 € or less (§ 27 Abs. 38 UStG). The page flags these orders. Consumers and customers abroad are not affected.
