WordPress Plugin Event Registration for CPE Seminars — NASBA 50-Minute Credit Rule

A seminar runs from 8:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the afternoon. Lunch takes an hour and there are two 15-minute breaks. How many CPE credits does each attendee get?

Count clock hours and you get 6.5. The NASBA/AICPA Statement on Standards for CPE Programs says otherwise. Standard 7.01 measures group programs by actual content time, with one 50-minute period equal to one full CPE credit. Breaks, excessive welcome and housekeeping do not count.

So the seminar above has 480 minutes on the clock, minus 90 minutes of lunch and breaks, which leaves 390 minutes of content. 390 divided by 50 is 7.8. Awarded in one-fifth increments, that is 7.8 CPE credits. Awarded in one-half increments, it rounds down to 7.5. Counted in 60-minute hours, it comes out at 6.5. That is 1.3 credits short for every attendee, and 52 credits short across a room of 40.

The rounding rule runs one way. Sponsors may round down to the nearest one-fifth, one-half or whole credit, never up. A group program can start at a half credit or a full credit. After the first full credit, it moves in one-fifth or one-half steps. The increment you choose has to apply to every session in the same program. State boards may accept different increments, which is why our free check asks you which one you award instead of assuming.

Then there are the records. Standard 9.02 says sponsors keep documentation for at least five years, including completion records by individual participant with the credits each one earned, plus the dates and locations of the program and how the credits were worked out. A seminar held today leaves a file you still have to be able to produce in 2031.

The 2026 revision of the Standards took effect on August 1, 2026. New group programs follow the changes from March 1, 2027, and programs that already existed on July 31, 2026 have until November 1, 2028.

The completion record starts at registration: name as licensed, credential, issuing state board, license number. A form that asks only for name and email leaves someone retyping all of that later.

That is what the free plugin fixes. The state board dropdown lists all 55 US boards of accountancy, meaning the 50 states, DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Islands. Every registration lands in an admin register, 50 per page. The form carries a nonce, a honeypot and escaped output. The paid version adds four things you only miss once registrations are coming in: a CSV export of the whole register with submission dates, a confirmation email so each attendee can catch a wrong license number before the certificate goes out, an alert to you for each new registration, and search by attendee name.
