Centre your first pot in week one
Wheel-Throwing from Zero is a six-week online course for people who have a wheel, or access to one, and keep ending up with a wobbling lump.
Rosa films every lesson at the studio wheel, from the same angle you see when you sit down. You work through it at your own pace and send photos of what you make.
What you get when you join
42 filmed lessons
Shot over the wheel, not across the room. Hand position is the whole skill and you can see it.
Photo feedback, twice a month
Send pictures of your pots. Rosa replies with what your hands are doing and what to change next session.
A printable clay and glaze sheet
Which clay bodies forgive a beginner, which do not, and what they cost by the bag.
Access that does not expire
The lessons stay open. Come back next winter when you finally get wheel time again.
Works with any wheel
Electric or kick, studio or garage. Nothing here depends on owning a particular machine.
The six weeks
Week 1 — Wedging and centring
Getting the air out and the clay still. This is the week most people quit, so it is the longest one.
Week 2 — Opening and pulling walls
Three pulls, even thickness, and how to feel a wall getting thin before you see it.
Week 3 — Cylinders and mugs
The shape everything else is built from, plus pulling and attaching a handle that survives the kiln.
Week 4 — Bowls and plates
Opening wide without losing the floor, and why your plates crack while your bowls do not.
Week 5 — Trimming and footrings
Leather-hard timing, chucks, and trimming a foot that makes a plain pot look finished.
Week 6 — Glazing and firing
Dipping, waxing and what to ask a community kiln for when you have no kiln of your own.
Three ways to join
Self-paced — £120
All 42 lessons and the clay and glaze sheet. Access does not expire. No feedback on your pots.
Self-paced with feedback — £220
Everything above, plus photo feedback from Rosa twice a month for six months.
Live cohort — £390
Six live Tuesday evenings with twelve people, plus everything in the two options above. Dates on the cohort page.
Before you sign up
Do I need my own wheel?
You need wheel time, not a wheel. Most students book hours at a community studio and work through two lessons per visit.
I have never touched clay. Is this too early?
No. Week one assumes nothing, including that you know how to wedge.
How long does each week take?
Roughly two hours of watching and two to three hours at the wheel. You choose when.
What if it is not for me?
Tell us within 14 days and you get the whole payment back, whatever you have watched.
Can I pay in instalments?
Yes, three monthly payments on the two larger options. Ask on the contact page and Rosa will send the link.
The next cohort fills before it opens
Twelve seats, and the waitlist gets them first. Put your name down and you will hear before anyone else.
