Questions people ask

What does this actually work out?

It takes a UK car's published list price and adds factory-fitted options and delivery: a £38,500 car with a £2,200 pack is taxed on £40,700, not the £39,200 you pay. It returns the £40,000 or £50,000 line that applies, how far over the line you are, and the £2,200 supplement charged across years 2 to 6.

Who is it for?

UK fleet managers, lease brokers, company-car choosers and salary-sacrifice administrators who sign off cars priced near £40,000. It is built for the moment you are on a configurator page adding an options pack and need to know whether that pack just moved the car over its own threshold.

Why not just ask a chatbot or read a review site?

Because both still describe one £40,000 line for every car and the old £425 rate. From 1 April 2026 zero-emission cars get a £50,000 line instead, and the supplement is £440 a year on top of the £200 standard rate. They also use the price you negotiate rather than the list price the DVLA records.

What is free and what needs the key?

Every calculation is free, in the popup and on the web page, with no key, no limit and no watermark. One car is a finished answer. The $60 key adds two different things: a .csv export of every car you have checked, which is yours to keep, and a browser alarm ahead of each renewal date.

What would this cost me otherwise?

A qualified UK accountant charges £75 to £200 an hour for this kind of advice, and 2026 UK accountancy fee guides put senior tax advisers higher again. Getting one car wrong costs £2,200 of Expensive Car Supplement across years 2 to 6, which no single hour of advice recovers.
