Talking to someone, when carrying it alone has stopped working

Nadia Fenwick is a counselling psychologist in Wexbury, working with adults, couples and young people in person and online.

Sessions last fifty minutes and are held at the same time each week. You do not need a referral or a diagnosis to make contact, and a first email can be two lines long.

What people come with

Anxiety that has taken over the day

Checking, avoiding, planning for things that have not happened. We look at what keeps it going rather than only at how it feels.

Low mood that has lasted

When it stopped being a bad week and became how things are. Slow, ordinary work on sleep, activity, and the thoughts underneath.

Bereavement and loss

Grief that came out sideways, or that arrived late, or that other people expect you to be over by now.

Something that happened

Assault, an accident, a childhood you have never spoken about. Nothing is opened faster than you decide, and you can stop at any point.

Relationships and family

The same argument on a loop, a separation, a parent you cannot be in a room with. Attended alone or together.

Work, burnout and change

Exhaustion that a holiday did not fix, a job that has changed shape, or a decision you keep postponing.

How the first contact goes

You write, in as few words as you like

The enquiry form asks for a name, a way to reply and a sentence about what is happening. That is enough.

A free fifteen-minute call

A short call to hear what you are looking for and to say honestly whether I am the right person. Nobody is put on a list from this call.

A first full session

Fifty minutes to go through your history at your pace, agree what you want to be different, and cover confidentiality and fees.

A regular weekly hour

The same day and time each week, for as long as it is useful. We review how it is going roughly every six sessions.

If you need help right now

This website is not an emergency service and enquiries are not monitored outside working hours.

If you are in immediate danger, or if you cannot keep yourself safe today, contact your local emergency number, go to your nearest emergency department, or call the crisis line that operates where you live. If you are with someone who is at risk, stay with them and make that call together.

If you can wait until the next working day, write to the practice and you will have a reply then.

Not sure whether this is the right kind of help?

Say what is happening in a couple of lines. If another service or another therapist would suit you better, you will be told that plainly.
