Applies the 2026 headcount tier
Delaware charges nothing under 10 workers, 0.32% at 10-24 and 0.80% at 25+; Maine waives the employer share under 15 workers. The tool picks the tier from your headcount instead of one flat rate.
Runs the Minnesota small-employer wage test
Minnesota's reduced 0.66% rate needs 30 or fewer workers AND an average quarterly wage at or under $27,745.88. The tool computes your average quarterly wage and tells you which side of that line you are on.
Splits employer share from employee withholding
Shows the statutory maximum you may deduct from wages (MN 0.44%, ME 0.5%, DE half the rate) and what is left as the employer's own cost, or prices the whole premium as employer-paid.
Prices the months already worked
Minnesota premiums started 1 January 2026. If you registered late, the tool converts your employer rate into the back premium owed for the months you have already run payroll.
Holds the Maryland delay
Maryland FAMLI contributions were pushed to 1 January 2027, so the correct 2026 figure is $0. The tool returns zero for Maryland instead of a rate that is not in force yet.
Tracks the next premium due date
Takes the date your next quarterly premium is due and, in the full version, schedules reminders 30, 14 and 1 day ahead so a quarter is not missed.

Questions people ask

What does State Paid Leave Cost Check 2026 actually do?

You enter a state, your headcount there, your annual wages and the part of those wages above the per-worker cap. It returns the 2026 premium rate that applies to you, the total premium, the employer's own share, the amount you may withhold from wages, and the back premium owed for months of 2026 payroll you already ran.

Who is this for?

Payroll and HR admins at 10-to-60-person US employers with staff in Delaware, Maine, Minnesota or Maryland. That headcount band is exactly where the size tiers bite: Delaware changes rate at 10 and again at 25 workers, Maine waives the employer share under 15, and Minnesota's reduced rate stops at 30.

Why can't I just use a free calculator or ask a chatbot?

A single-rate calculator gives you one percentage. It does not run Minnesota's average-quarterly-wage test, does not switch Delaware between 0%, 0.32% and 0.80% on headcount, does not know Maryland FAMLI moved to 1 January 2027, and does not price the months of 2026 you have already run payroll without remitting.

What is free and what costs money?

Every calculation is free and unlimited with no licence key: all four states, every rate, the size tiers, the employer and employee split, and the back-premium figure. The $60 full version adds a different axis, ownership and repetition: CSV export of your figures and reminders 30, 14 and 1 day before each quarterly premium due date.

What would this cost me otherwise?

An independent payroll-compliance consultant bills $150 to $300 an hour. Re-checking one state's 2026 rate, its size tier and your split is comfortably an hour of that, and you need it again each time headcount crosses a tier or a new state program switches on.
