Install the PNG as a brush

  1. Photoshop: open the PNG > Edit > Define Brush Preset > name it > OK. It appears at the end of the Brushes panel.
  2. Procreate: Brush Library > + > Shape > Edit > Import > pick the PNG > two-finger tap to invert, so the strands paint.
  3. Clip Studio Paint: Edit > Register Material > Image > tick Use for brush tip shape.
  4. Krita: Brush Editor > Brush Tip > Predefined > Import.

Menu names differ by app version and interface language. Procreate uses .brushset, not .abr - that is why this is a PNG: one file registers in all four apps, keeps its full 2048 px (an .abr is fixed at the size it was saved), and also works as a texture layer. A PNG carries no brush settings (spacing, scatter, angle); start with spacing 25 % to stamp, 8-12 % to drag.

Why not a free hair brush pack?

Free hair brush packs mostly ship straight and wavy strands. A 4B Z-pattern or a 4C coil painted with them reads as the wrong hair, and your client sees it at the first proof. Most are .abr files, which Procreate cannot open.

Questions people ask

What do the hair Photoshop brushes contain?

18 hair stamps at 2048 x 2048 px: one for each of the 12 hair types 1A to 4C, plus flyaways, baby hairs, a three-strand braid, a tapered lock tip, highlight strands and a strand-comb tip for dragging parallel strands. Each stamp comes twice: a greyscale brush source and a transparent PNG for texture layers.

Who are these hair brushes made for?

Digital portrait and character artists who paint real people, especially commissions with curly and coily hair from 3A to 4C. If your client has a 4B Z-pattern and your current brushes only draw straight or wavy strands, this set gives you a stamp for that exact hair type in Photoshop, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint or Krita.

Why not use a free hair brush pack?

Free hair brush packs mostly cover straight and wavy strands, so tight curls and coils come out looking like the wrong hair. Most are also .abr files, which Procreate cannot open. These are PNG stamps: they register as brushes in four apps, keep their full 2048 px, and also work as texture layers.

What can I do for free?

The page has a free browser generator. Pick a hair type from 1A to 4C, set the strand count, length and taper, and the finished 2048 px stamp draws on screen. Download that PNG and define it as a brush. It is complete for one custom stamp. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.

How does the price compare?

The pack is $24, paid once, not a subscription. Our shelf scan on 27 Sep 2026 found that the top paid hair brush set on the Gumroad brushes shelf also sells at $24. The difference is the coverage: named stamps for all 12 hair types 1A to 4C, two files per stamp, and written settings for four apps.
