Why a generic "Capital at risk" line is not enough

ProductWhat the FCA prescribes (COBS 4.12A.11R)
Cryptoasset"… you should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong."
Non-readily realisable shares"… you are unlikely to be protected if something goes wrong."
P2P lending"Don't invest unless you're prepared to lose money. … You may not be able to access your money easily …"
EU CFD (ESMA)Your own percentage of retail accounts that lost money, recalculated every three months.

Communicating an unapproved financial promotion is a criminal offence under FSMA 2000 s21 (up to two years' imprisonment, s25). The kit draws the warning; agree the final screens with your compliance team. Not legal advice.

How to get the kit into Figma or Sketch

  1. In Figma, drag the .sketch file onto the file browser. Sketch users open the same file directly.
  2. Copy an SVG and paste it into Figma: it lands as an editable vector.
  3. For variant sets, import the plugin (Plugins > Development > Import plugin from manifest). Menu names differ by Figma version and UI language. Part of the component structure is simplified in the .sketch.

Fintech UI Kit — Investment Risk Warnings: FCA High-Risk Banner, 24-Hour Cooling-Off, ESMA CFD 76% Warning (Figma + Sketch)

A retail investing app in the UK or the EU carries one line that a designer cannot improvise: the risk warning. The FCA writes it for you, word for word, and it is not the same sentence for every product.

The wording changes with the product

COBS 4.12A.11R(1) sets the text. For cryptoassets: "Don't invest unless you're prepared to lose all the money you invest. This is a high-risk investment and you should not expect to be protected if something goes wrong." For shares and bonds that are not readily realisable, one phrase changes: "you are unlikely to be protected". P2P lending has its own sentence about not being able to access your money easily.

A generic "Capital at risk" line covers none of them, and a chatbot asked for "the FCA crypto warning" easily returns the other sentence.

Where it sits on the screen

COBS 4.12A.36R asks for more than the words. On websites and apps the warning is statically fixed and visible at the top of the screen, stays visible while scrolling, sits in its own border and is bold and underlined. COBS 4.12A.11R(3) adds the link "Take 2 mins to learn more", which opens the risk summary. Character-limited ads get short versions.

The direct offer journey

Before a first-time client sees a direct offer, COBS 4.12A.18R wants a cooling-off period of at least 24 hours after their request. A client who asks at 18:40 on 1 October 2026 can be shown the offer from 18:40 on 2 October. The journey also carries the personalised warning from COBS 4.12A.20R: "Sam, this is a high-risk investment. How would you feel if you lost the money you're about to invest?" followed by the same link.

Communicating an unapproved financial promotion is a criminal offence under section 21 of FSMA 2000, with up to two years' imprisonment on indictment under section 25.

The EU CFD warning carries your own number

For CFDs, the ESMA product intervention measures (2018), now national measures across the EU, prescribe a warning with the provider's own percentage of retail accounts that lost money, calculated every three months over the preceding 12 months. If 4,104 of 5,400 active retail accounts lost money, the banner reads: "76% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider." Calculated on 1 October 2026, the next recalculation is due on 1 January 2027. The short version for limited-character ads is "76% of retail CFD accounts lose money."

What the kit draws

The fintech UI kit has 8 Figma components with 29 variants. The free part is the banner (UK cryptoasset, shares, P2P, EU CFD) and the short warnings (crypto and shares, P2P, LTAF, CFD): 2 components, 8 variants, with the UK ones in a border, bold and underlined. The full kit adds the direct offer steps, the 24-hour cooling-off bar, invest button states, the four investor declarations (restricted, certified high net worth, certified sophisticated, self-certified sophisticated), the CFD loss-percentage field with its filled, due and stale states, and the "Take 2 mins to learn more" link.

It ships as a Figma plugin, a .sketch file and one SVG per variant; part of the component structure is simplified in the .sketch.

Try it with your own figures

The free warning builder on the product page takes your product type, client name, request time and CFD account figures and writes the full warning, the short warning, the personalised warning, the cooling-off end time and the recalculation date. Nothing is uploaded. Agree the final screens with your compliance team; the kit draws the warning, it is not legal advice.

Questions people ask

What does this fintech UI kit do?

It gives you 8 Figma components with 29 variants for investing and trading apps: the FCA risk warning banners for cryptoassets, shares and P2P lending in their exact COBS 4.12A wording, short warnings for character-limited ads, the personalised warning, the 24-hour cooling-off bar and button states, investor declarations, and the ESMA CFD warning with your own loss percentage.

Who is it for?

Product designers and fintech agencies building retail investing, crypto, P2P lending or CFD trading apps for the UK or the EU. If your compliance team has asked for the FCA high-risk warning, the 24-hour cooling-off or a CFD loss percentage on every screen, the kit already draws each state. Sketch users open the same file.

Why not use a free fintech kit or ask a chatbot?

Free fintech kits draw a generic 'Capital at risk' line. The FCA prescribes the exact sentence per product type: cryptoassets say 'you should not expect to be protected', other high-risk investments say 'you are unlikely to be protected', and P2P has its own text. A chatbot easily swaps these. Here each variant carries the text from COBS 4.12A.11R.

What is free?

The banner and the short warnings are free: 2 components, 8 variants, as Figma plugin, .sketch and SVG. The warning builder on this page is free too: type your product type, client name, request time and CFD account figures and it writes the full warning, the short warning, the personalised warning, the cooling-off end time and the CFD recalculation date.

How does $168 compare?

$168 is paid once, not a subscription, and it is the same as the top of the paid fintech UI kit shelf we measured in October 2026. Those kits do not carry FCA or ESMA warning states. Drawing the 29 variants yourself means reading COBS 4.12A and the ESMA decision first. You can check your own warning text on this page free before you pay.
