Which contractors need a 1099-NEC for 2026? Check each one against the $2,000 line.
Type what you paid one contractor. You get the answer on screen: form or no form, the box 1a amount, the W-9 and TIN check, 24% backup withholding, whether you must e-file, and what a late form costs.
No per-form fee and no account: the check, the W-9 list and the contractor copies are made here. You still file free on the IRS IRIS portal or with your provider — this app does not e-file.
Free: any contractor, one at a time, the whole answer on screen. Pro ($29/year or $4.99/month): all contractors at once, W-9 tracker, contractor copies, deadline reminders.

3The 2026 filing checklist
Free vs Pro
Free
- Check any contractor, one at a time — the whole answer on screen, as often as you like
- Form or no form at the 2026 lines, box 1a amount, W-9 and TIN format, 24% backup withholding, e-file rule, late-form penalties, CF/SF state
- The 2026 checklist with the IRS sources and the date they were read
Pro — $29/year or $4.99/month

- W-9 tracker with the request text, TIN format flags and the 24% backup withholding amount per payee
- Contractor copies (Copy B data, one page each, PDF) with the dated IRS source printed, and a roster CSV to key into IRIS or your filer

Questions
Does the $2,000 line apply to what I paid in 2025?
No. Forms for 2025 payments (filed in early 2026) used $600. The $2,000 line applies to payments made in 2026, reported on forms due February 1, 2027.
Does this app file my 1099s?
No. It tells you who needs a form, builds the amounts and the contractor copies, and reminds you of the dates. File Copy A with the IRS on the free IRIS portal (it needs an IRIS TCC, which can take up to 45 days) or through your filing provider.
Is the TIN check the IRS TIN Matching?
No. It checks the format of the number (9 digits, valid SSN/EIN/ITIN shape). IRS TIN Matching needs an IRS e-Services account.
Where does my data go?
Nowhere. Names, amounts and TINs stay in this browser. The only request the page makes on its own is the licence check, which sends the key you typed.
What does it not cover?
Medical payments to corporations, gross proceeds to attorneys (1099-MISC box 10), direct sales (box 2), cash tips (box 1b), golden parachutes, and state-only filing rules or lower state thresholds. Check your state's revenue department. This is a checklist, not tax advice.
