Miss your VMware subscription anniversary and Broadcom adds 20% to the first-year renewal. This calculator shows, for your cluster, whether the move to Proxmox VE finishes before that date, and what the renewal costs if it does not.

16-core minimum per CPU. Broadcom bills the physical cores of every CPU, and never fewer than 16 per CPU (Broadcom KB 313548). Two 12-core CPUs are billed as 32 cores.
20% late-renewal surcharge. If the subscription is not renewed on its anniversary date, Broadcom adds 20% on top of the first year's renewal offer (Techzine, 28 March 2025).
No 72-core minimum. The 72-core order minimum announced for 10 April 2025 was withdrawn the same day; Broadcom kept the 16-core rule (iX / it-daily, 10 April 2025). Many calculators and chatbots still apply 72.
Why a free core calculator is not enough: it multiplies cores by a price, but it never compares your Proxmox VE migration pace with the renewal date. The example price of $135 per core per year is Redress Compliance's list estimate for vSphere Foundation; type the price from your own quote.
The .xlsx workbook you keep and send to finance: the same 12 formulas live in Excel or LibreOffice, plus a Catch-up plan sheet that shows the cores you pay for but do not have (16-core floor), the weeks you really have left after the buffer, and how many VMs will still be on vSphere on renewal day a
One payment, one licence key for this tool. The key is shown right after payment.
Broadcom KB 313548: license the physical cores of every CPU, with a minimum of 16 cores per CPU. Techzine (28 March 2025): a subscription that is not renewed on its anniversary date costs a 20% increase on top of the first year's

It shows the days you are short, the renewal you still owe, the 20% surcharge if you let it lapse, and the weekly pace needed to finish in time.
IT managers and sysadmins who run a small or edge vSphere cluster and are moving it to Proxmox VE, XCP-ng or Harvester. It is built for the weeks before the VMware subscription anniversary, when you must decide whether to speed up the cutover or ask your reseller for a renewal quote before the date passes.
A core calculator multiplies cores by a price and stops. It does not compare your migration pace with the renewal date, it does not tell you that missing the anniversary adds 20% to the first-year renewal, and it does not give the VMs per week you need to finish before that date. This calculator does all three with your own numbers.
The browser page is free and complete for one cluster: licensed cores, yearly bill, migration days, days short, renewal owed, the 20% surcharge and the needed weekly pace. The workbook is a file you keep. It has the same formulas plus a Catch-up plan sheet with the 16-core floor cost, the weeks left after the buffer, and the VMs still on vSphere on renewal day.
In the worked example (4 hosts, 2 CPUs of 12 cores each, $135 per core), the cluster is billed for 128 cores, or $17,280 a year. A lapsed renewal adds 20%, which is $3,456. The workbook is a one-time $21 payment, not a subscription, and you can try the free page with your own numbers before you buy.
