What changes, and when

On 2026-10-27 Citi and American Airlines announced a refresh of the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the Citi AAdvantage Business card (The Points Guy, CNBC). The annual fee goes from 99 to 150 dollars. For existing cardholders the refreshed benefits start on 2027-01-24, and the higher fee applies at the first renewal after that date.

What the 150 buys on the Platinum Select:

Why the perk list is not your answer

Reviews list the perks at face value. A credit is worth what you would have spent anyway. If you buy 25 dollars of snacks a year, the 100 inflight credit is worth 25 to you. If you never check a bag, the free bag is worth 0. The calculator takes eight numbers from your own year and adds up only what you use:

  1. Your renewal fee (150 after 2027-01-24).
  2. People checking a bag on the same reservation (the benefit stops at you + 4).
  3. Domestic AA round trips a year with a checked bag.
  4. The bag fee you would pay each way: 45 prepaid online, 50 at the airport, for tickets issued from 2026-04-09 (Newsweek).
  5. Your inflight spend.
  6. Your card spend (the 150 discount needs 20,000).
  7. Whether you will really use the Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit (counted as 30 a year).
  8. Any other perk you would pay for yourself.

Three years that look different

The bag benefit is the lever. Each extra traveler on the same reservation adds 90 a round trip at the 45 fee, so a family of four on one trip already passes 150.

Against the old rules

The workbook also runs your year under the 2026 rules: a 99 fee, a 25% inflight discount and a 125 flight discount. In the solo example that was 96.25 of value, a net of −2.75. Under the 2027 rules it is −35.00. The change costs that card holder 32.25 dollars a year, 140.00 over 4 renewals if nothing else changes.

What to do before the fee posts

If the "Lost at renewal" line is above 0, call Citi before the statement and ask what product change is available to you. If it is 0, keep the card and book companions on the same reservation so their first bags are free too. Check your benefits guide and aa.com first.

Questions people ask

What does this card renewal calculator work out?

It takes your own year with the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select — bag trips, travelers on the reservation, inflight spend, card spend, Global Entry — and adds up only the perks you really use, then sets that against the 150-dollar fee due at your first renewal after 2027-01-24. You see the dollars lost at renewal or kept, and the bag round trips you need to break even.

Who is this calculator for?

US holders of the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select, and small-business owners on the Citi AAdvantage Business card, whose fee rises from 99 to 150 dollars at the first renewal after 2027-01-24. It suits people who fly American a few times a year and want a number before the fee posts, not a list of perks.

Why not just read a free review of the new perks?

Reviews and the bank page count every perk at face value: a 100 inflight credit, Walmart+ valued at 98, a 120 Global Entry credit. If you buy 25 dollars of snacks a year, the credit is worth 25 to you. This page subtracts what you will not use, from your own fee, with your own trips.

What is free and what is in the paid workbook?

Free: one card, one year, on screen — all 8 inputs and all 10 results, as often as you like. Paid, 21 dollars once: the .xlsx workbook with the same live formulas plus a 2026 vs 2027 rules sheet showing what the change does to you, the fee over 4 renewals and your 4-year net, one copy per card.

How does the cost compare to just paying the fee?

The fee is 150 dollars every year from the first renewal after 2027-01-24. In the worked example — one traveler, one bag round trip at 45 dollars each way, 25 dollars of inflight spend — the perks used are worth 115, so 35 dollars is lost at that renewal and 140 over 4 renewals if nothing changes.

When do these numbers change next?

The refreshed benefits start on 2027-01-24 and the 150-dollar fee applies at your first renewal after that date (Citi via The Points Guy, 2026-10-27). The inflight credit runs per calendar year and the 150 flight discount per membership year, so re-run the calculator before each renewal statement.
