The window, counted from the registration date
The first Section 8 window runs from the 5th to the 6th anniversary of registration, then every 10 years. It is counted from the registration date, not the filing date or the first-use date - the mistake that kills marks.
The day the registration dies
Six months after the statutory deadline the grace period closes and the USPTO cancels or expires the registration. The tool prints that date and the days of margin left on your planned filing date.
Post-January-2025 fee table
Section 8 is $325 per class, not the $225 it was before 2025-01-18. Section 9 renewal is $325, the grace fee is $100 per class per component, Section 15 is $250, and paper filing costs more. All from the USPTO schedule revised 2026-08-14.
Madrid Section 71, not Section 8
A registration that came in through the Madrid Protocol (Section 66(a)) is maintained with a Section 71 declaration and is renewed at WIPO, not with a US Section 9. Pick the basis and the tool names the right filing.
Total out of pocket, per class
Adds your attorney or filing-service quote per class to the USPTO fee so the number on screen is the number that leaves your account.
