Student attendance dashboard: who crossed the line this week

For attendance leads in England and district data teams in the US. Absence %, the Attendance Works tier (5% / 10% / 20%), the DfE band (10% persistent, 50% severe) and the DfE penalty notice threshold (10 unauthorised sessions in a rolling 10 school weeks) for every student.

How the lines are drawn

Absence % = (possible − attended) ÷ possible. Written this way so 12 of 120 is exactly 10.0%, not 9.99%.
US tier (Attendance Works): under 5% satisfactory · 5% at risk · 10% moderate chronic · 20% severe chronic.
England band (DfE): 10% or more of possible sessions = persistently absent · 50% or more = severely absent.
Penalty screen: DfE national framework (from 19 August 2024) — 10 unauthorised sessions within a rolling 10 school weeks means a penalty notice must be considered (80 pounds per parent per child within 21 days, 160 pounds within 28). A screen, not a decision.

Why not a free spreadsheet template? It classifies one snapshot; the rolling 10-week window and the week-by-week trend have to be rebuilt by hand every Monday.
