転職 職務経歴書 テンプレート (English Edition) — 6 Career-History Resume Templates for Mid-Career Job Change in Japan: B2B Sales · Software Engineer · Accounting · Industry Switch · Production Engineer · Contract-to-Permanent

6 ready-to-fill .docx career histories, written in English for the 書類選考 at foreign-affiliated and global employers in Japan. Each one converts the parts a Japanese career history carries — company overview, 担当工程, 派遣元 and 派遣先, 億/万 figures, April-to-March fiscal years — into wording a non-Japanese hiring manager can read. A Japanese 職務経歴書 pasted into a translator arrives with the company nobody has heard of, the title nobody can rank, and the numbers in units nobody converts.

Header

Write given name first, family name second, and use the same spelling as your passport. Do not add a photo, date of birth or marital status — the Japanese 履歴書 carries those, an English resume does not.

Ward and city only. Do not print your full address block; the recruiter only needs to know you can commute or that you will relocate.

Write the number in international format with +81 and drop the leading zero. Use a personal address, never your current company's.

Name the exact posted job title and location. Applications with no stated target get sorted into whichever opening is closest, and that is rarely the one you wanted.

Career Summary

Use your own years, product line, territory and account count. This is the 職務要約 block, and it is the only paragraph that is certain to be read.

Say what you are given that others are not. Assignment is evidence; adjectives about yourself are not.

Professional Experience

Add the one-line company overview: industry, employee count, listed or private. A Japanese company name means nothing to a foreign hiring manager, and this line is what makes your employer legible.

Give the Japanese title and an English equivalent, then state territory and account count. Japanese title levels do not map one-to-one to English ones, so let the numbers rank you.

Write yen figures in full digits as well as words, because 億 and 万 do not survive translation and a foreign reader will not convert them. Japan's fiscal year runs April to March — say so, as here.

Describe one deal you can walk through in full at interview. Do not claim a colleague's account, because the reference check in this industry is a phone call.

Keep earlier roles to one entry each, in reverse-chronological order, with the same company-overview line. Many Japanese careers start in April — keep the April-to-March rhythm visible rather than converting to January.

Skills, Certifications and Languages

Include the internal approval workflow you navigate. At a foreign-affiliated employer selling into Japanese companies, knowing how 稟議 approval works is the skill they are buying.

Give your real score and the month you sat the test — scores go stale and recruiters ask. Keep the driving licence: field sales roles in Japan still require it.

Say where you actually use English, not just a level word. 'Business level' with no example is the claim most often tested in the first five minutes of an interview.

Education and How to Use This File

Faculty, university, city and the March graduation month. Do not include high school, and do not include your entrance year unless the posting asks.

This replaces the 自己PR block. Write one concrete behaviour you repeat, not a personality description.

Keep this line while you edit, then delete it before you send. Check that the file does not still say Sanwa Office Solutions anywhere.

Read this line once before you edit, then delete it. It is the checklist for what must survive from your Japanese 職務経歴書 into this document.

Name in romanised form: Kenji Sato

Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo

Target position line: Applying for: Account Executive, Enterprise Sales (Tokyo)

One column, no tables, no photo. The Japanese 職務経歴書 is often laid out as a table and closed with 以上; this English version uses neither, because an English-reading hiring manager expects plain reverse-chronological paragraphs.

Career Summary

Summary: Corporate sales representative with 7 years selling office equipment and maintenance contracts to manufacturing clients in the Kanto region, currently covering 40 existing accounts and prospecting in Tokyo and Kanagawa.

Positioning line: Consistently assigned the department's renewal-risk accounts, including two clients retained after their parent company opened a competing supplier tender.

Three lines maximum. In Japan the document screening (書類選考) usually happens before anyone speaks to you, so the first paragraph does the work an interview opening would do.

Professional Experience

Current employer with company overview: Sanwa Office Solutions Co., Ltd. — Tokyo, Japan · April 2019 to present · Office equipment sales and maintenance services · approximately 480 employees · privately held

Position and scope: Sales Representative, Corporate Sales Division, Second Sales Department (Japanese title: 主任 / Team Leader-equivalent). Territory: Tokyo and Kanagawa. Portfolio: 40 existing accounts plus new-business development.

Results: Fiscal 2025 (April 2025 to March 2026): closed ¥180 million (180,000,000 yen) in contracted revenue against a ¥150 million target, of which ¥52 million came from three new clients.

Named achievement: Renegotiated the maintenance contract of the division's largest client at the point they had opened a competitive tender, keeping the account for a further three years on a revised service-level schedule.

Previous employer: Kitagawa Trading Co., Ltd. — Yokohama, Japan · April 2017 to March 2019 · Industrial parts wholesaler · approximately 120 employees. Inside Sales: handled quotations and order entry for 60 recurring accounts and supported field sales on site visits.

Reverse-chronological, newest first. This is the 逆編年体 format, and it is the right choice when your next job is in the same industry, because the reader wants your most recent territory first.

Skills, Certifications and Languages

Sales skills: New-business prospecting by cold call and referral · quotation and pricing approval workflow · contract renewal negotiation · CRM pipeline management and weekly forecast reporting · proposal writing for internal approval (稟議) processes

Certifications: TOEIC Listening & Reading: 780 (taken June 2025) · Standard Class 1 driving licence (普通自動車第一種運転免許), obtained 2015

Languages: Japanese: native · English: business level, used daily for email and quarterly reporting to the regional office

This section is the 活かせる経験・知識・スキル block of a 職務経歴書, written so that it also reads as a normal English skills list. Nothing here should be a skill you cannot demonstrate on request.

Education and How to Use This File

University: Bachelor of Commerce, Faculty of Commerce, Meiji University, Tokyo — graduated March 2017

Statement of strengths: I keep accounts by handling the renewal conversation early: I review every contract three months before expiry and bring the client a revised service schedule before procurement starts comparing suppliers.

Opening and sending the file: Open this file in Microsoft Word. In Google Docs use File ▸ Open ▸ Upload. Menu names differ between Word versions and interface languages. Google Docs may shift the fonts and margins slightly, so check the page breaks before sending, and submit as PDF from Word (File ▸ Save As ▸ PDF) unless the posting asks for .docx.

Why the free template you already downloaded is not enough: A generic English resume template has no place to put your company's employee count, your Japanese job title, your April-to-March fiscal year or your yen figures — so those facts get dropped, and the screener is left with a company they have never heard of and a title they cannot rank.

Keep the whole document to two pages. If it runs longer, cut the oldest employer entry rather than shrinking the font.
