Nursing Resume Template — 6 Fill-In Word Documents by License Level and Care Setting (RN · LPN/LVN · CNA · Home Health & Hospice · School Nurse · Per Diem Float)

6 fill-in .docx nursing résumés written to US convention: your license level, number and expiration in the first six lines, MM/YYYY employment dates, plain headings an applicant tracking system can parse — and no photo, no date of birth, no marital status. Type over the sample lines and send it tonight.

Contact and License Header

Highest nursing degree first, then RN. Do not add a photo, date of birth or marital status — none of the three belongs on a US résumé.

City, state and ZIP only; a full street address is not expected here and costs you a line you need.

Use the phone you actually answer and a personal address — never your current employer's email.

Copy the number and expiration exactly from your state board record, and delete the eNLC line if your state is not a compact state.

Certifications

Always write the expiration month — a certification with no date reads as lapsed to whoever checks compliance.

List only certifications you currently hold; delete the line rather than naming one you are still studying for.

Keep the training that matches the posting and cut the rest; three lines is the limit for this block.

Professional Summary

Replace every number with your own — beds, ratio, years, nurses precepted. Keep it to three lines.

Rewrite this single line for each posting so it names that unit type; it is the fastest edit in the file.

Clinical Experience (reverse-chronological)

MM/YYYY – MM/YYYY, newest position first; months matter, because year-only dates make gaps look bigger.

State your real ratio and bed count — this line tells a recruiter what your shift actually looks like.

Use numbers you can defend in an interview and round nothing upward.

Name the audit, protocol or committee by the name it actually has on your unit.

Replace the generic wording with the exact system name your hospital uses — recruiters search for that word.

Keep pre-licensure healthcare jobs; drop unrelated work older than ten years.

Education and Clinical Skills

Degree, school, city, graduation month. Drop your GPA once you have two years of experience.

Keep this for your first five years, then delete it — an active licence makes it redundant.

List only skills you perform independently; keep the wording the posting uses so the parser matches it.

Read this document once from top to bottom before you change anything — it is already filled in as a finished résumé, so you are editing, not facing a blank page. How to open it: Word ▸ File ▸ Open; Google Docs ▸ File ▸ Open ▸ Upload; LibreOffice Writer opens .docx directly. Menu wording differs between Word versions and interface languages. If you edit in Google Docs, fonts and margins can shift, so check where the page breaks before you export. Why not a free online résumé builder: it keeps your file behind an account and exports on its terms — this .docx is yours offline, and you can re-open it at your next renewal.

Certifications

Life-support certifications: BLS and ACLS (American Heart Association), current through 06/2027

Specialty certification: CMSRN (Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse), certified since 2022

Unit-specific training: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certified · Unit preceptor training completed 2024

This block sits above your experience on purpose. A nurse recruiter checks licence and certification currency before reading anything else, and an applicant tracking system searches for these exact acronyms.

Professional Summary

Summary statement: Registered nurse with four years on a 32-bed medical-surgical unit, carrying a 5–6 patient assignment on days. Charge nurse on rotation, precepted seven new graduate nurses, and served on the unit's falls-reduction committee.

Target role line: Seeking a staff RN position on a medical-surgical or step-down unit, day or night shift, in the Columbus metro area.

This is the first block a recruiter reads. Plain sentences and real numbers, no adjectives.
