Terraform cost review skill for Claude Code — standing AWS and Azure charges

Standing cloud charges in your Terraform, with the list price and the fix

terraform-cost-lint - findings on the bundled example

On one Terraform file it found 8 standing charges: one NAT gateway per AZ ($98.55 a month across three before any GB), EKS 1.33 past standard support ($365 more a month), public IPv4 on launch ($3.65 per instance), gp2, logs that never expire — each with the fix line.

What it printed on the bundled example

== Terraform Cost Lint — 8 findings (4 errors, 2 warnings, 2 info) in 1 file · 27 rules
  WARN main.tf:11 [rule-7]
This module variable is what creates the NAT gateway: $0.045 per hour plus $0.045 per GB. Traffic to S3 and DynamoDB can leave through a gateway VPC endpoint at no hourly charge.
fix: keep it, but add the free gateway endpoints beside it
  ERROR main.tf:12 [rule-5]
false means one NAT gateway per availability zone. Three AZs is $98.55 a month in hourly charges alone, before a single GB is processed.
fix: single_nat_gateway = true outside production
  ERROR main.tf:14 [rule-1]
Every instance launched here takes a public IPv4 at $0.005 per hour, in use or idle - $3.65 a month each, charged since 2024-02-01. A private subnet does not need one.

FAQ

What is a Claude Code skill?

A folder with a SKILL.md and scripts that Claude Code loads when your request matches it. You ask in plain words and Claude runs the scanner the skill carries.

How is this different from asking Claude without the skill?

The skill carries a dated rule table and a scanner that reads every file, so Claude quotes the exact date and line instead of answering from memory.

Does it send my code anywhere?

It works offline and does not read your cloud account or bill. Prices are list prices from the rule table, not your contract prices.

How do I install it?

Unzip into ~/.claude/skills/ (all projects) or your-repo/.claude/skills/ (one repo), then ask Claude Code: "review our Terraform for standing costs". Needs Node 16+.

What do I get when I buy?

The zip. On Whop it is in your library as a download lesson with the zip attached; on Gumroad it is the product file.
