ATS Resume Template — 6 Fill-In Word Documents (Software Engineer, Nurse, Career Changer, New Grad, Federal/USAJOBS, Director)

6 complete documents, 96 fill-in fields, US format. Every heading is written the way a parser reads it — and one header an applicant tracking system cannot parse means a recruiter never sees your name at all.

Contact Header

Use the name on your ID and use it identically on every application; a nickname here and a legal name on the background check slows the offer.

City and state only — never your street address, and never a work email you could lose access to.

Type the URL as plain text, not as a hyperlinked word like 'portfolio' — some parsers drop the link and keep only the word.

Copy the job title from the posting word for word; a title you invented will not match what the recruiter filters on.

Professional Summary

Two lines maximum, and name the technologies you actually ship in — delete any word you could not answer a follow-up question about.

Rebuild this line from the posting's own wording for every application; keep only the terms that are true of you.

Technical Skills

List the language name only, spelled the way the posting spells it; skip self-ratings like 'expert' or star bars.

Write out abbreviations that could be searched either way, for example 'CI/CD (continuous integration)'.

Name the specific services you have configured yourself, not everything your company happened to run.

Professional Experience

Keep title, employer, city and state, then MM/YYYY – MM/YYYY on one line in that order; 'Present' only if you are still employed there.

Start with a past-tense verb and end with your own measured number — take it from a dashboard you can open, never estimate it.

Say what you personally did; 'was part of a team that' tells a hiring manager nothing about you.

One bullet per line, no line breaks inside a bullet — a wrapped bullet can arrive as two separate entries.

Go back about 10 years and stop; older roles can be one line each under 'Earlier experience'.

Give an older role fewer bullets than your current one — two is enough.

Education and Certifications

Year of completion only — no GPA once you have several years of experience, and no high school.

Give the exact certificate name and its expiry; delete this line rather than listing a course you did not finish.

Contact Header

Full name: Jordan A. Ellis

Location and contact line: Austin, TX · (512) 555-0148 · [email protected]

Professional links: linkedin.com/in/jordan-ellis-dev · github.com/jordanellis

Target job title: Software Engineer — Backend and Distributed Systems

US rule, not a style choice: no photo, no date of birth, no marital status, no age, no nationality. Including any of them is a defect here and some employers will discard the file to stay compliant. HOW TO OPEN: in Word, double-click the file. In Google Docs use File ▸ Open ▸ Upload. In LibreOffice, File ▸ Open. Menu wording differs by version and interface language. Note that Google Docs may shift the font and margins slightly — check the page before you export your own PDF from there, and upload the .docx itself whenever the form accepts it.

Professional Summary

Summary statement: Backend engineer with 6 years building Python and Go services on AWS, focused on payment and identity systems that stay up under load.

Keyword alignment line: Core areas: distributed systems, REST and gRPC API design, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, CI/CD, on-call incident response.

The parser and the recruiter both read this block first. Rewrite these two lines for each posting — this is the only part you should retype every time.

Technical Skills

Languages: Languages: Python, Go, SQL, TypeScript, Bash

Frameworks and tools: Frameworks and tools: Django, FastAPI, gRPC, pytest, Git, Docker, Terraform

Cloud and data: Cloud and data: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda), Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka

Keep every skill as comma-separated plain text on one line. Skills placed in a table or a two-column layout are the single most common thing a parser returns as one unreadable string.

Professional Experience

Most recent role header: Senior Software Engineer · Northwind Payments, Austin, TX · 03/2022 – Present

Achievement bullet 1: Cut p95 checkout latency from 840 ms to 210 ms by replacing synchronous ledger writes with an event queue, across 4.2 million transactions per month.

Achievement bullet 2: Led the migration of 14 services from EC2 to Kubernetes with no customer-facing downtime, and wrote the runbooks the on-call rotation still uses.

Achievement bullet 3: Reduced on-call pages by 62% in two quarters by adding alert thresholds tied to error budgets instead of raw CPU.

Previous role header: Software Engineer · Cedar Grove Logistics, Dallas, TX · 07/2019 – 02/2022

Previous role bullet: Built the internal shipment-tracking API used by 240 warehouse staff daily, replacing a nightly spreadsheet export.

Reverse-chronological order, newest role first. Do not leave an unexplained gap: a short line such as 'Full-time caregiver, 05/2021 – 11/2021' is normal in the US and answers the question before it is asked.

Education and Certifications

Degree: B.S. Computer Science · University of Texas at Austin · 2019

Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (valid through 08/2027)

If you have no certifications, delete this heading entirely. An empty heading reads as an unfinished document.
